Department for Education Announces Bold Reform and Inclusive Mainstream Education

The Education Secretary has announced her vision for SEND as bold reform and the development of inclusive mainstream education

Introducing not one but two new SEND advisers in the form of Dame Christine Lenehan, former Director of the Council for Disabled Children and Tom Rees, Chief Executive, Ormiston Academies.

The Minister also announced the establishment of a new expert group advising on training and development to support neurodiversity and to determine how neurodiversity can support inclusion. The Government will also be looking at what works well in special schools with a view to adapting strategies into mainstream schools, as well as developing  additional SEND resource provision units in mainstream schools to strengthen inclusive practice.
