The Burning Question: Creating Innovative Solutions for Educators and the Speech Therapy Field
Too many children are slipping through the cracks in our classrooms. Educators are often faced with children who need support but lack the tools or expertise to identify and address their speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN). This leaves children struggling academically, socially, and emotionally often without the help they desperately need.
Statistics show that three children in every classroom have unidentified SLCN, leading to mental health challenges, increased vulnerability, and academic barriers. These children are more likely to experience unemployment, exploitation, and antisocial behaviors in adulthood. As educators, we can change this—but only if we have the right tools and support.
Asma Khanum, CEO and Speech and Language Therapist at Chatterbug, poses a crucial question: What are we doing to support these children better? With over 25 years of experience and a passion for making a difference, Asma leads Chatterbug’s mission to ensure that every child with SLCN
receives the tailored support they need to thrive.
Having navigated personal challenges, including her daughter's battle with cancer, embracing her own neurodivergence, and being a mother to neurodivergent children, Asma has developed a deep, personal understanding of the unique needs many children face. Asma used this insight to develop the innovative ideas that have driven Chatterbug’s mission. At Chatterbug, innovation is at the heart of our approach, and we’ve developed tools that empower educators and speech and language professionals alike to identify and support children more effectively.
